Unsupervised corrections of unknown chromatic dominants using a Brownian-path-based Retinex algorithm

چکیده
An experimental analysis of chromatic equalization based on a new implementation of the Retinex algorithm is presented. The experiments are carried out on a colored Mondrian patchwork illuminated with different commercial light sources and on synthetic images generated with a photometric ray tracer using different illuminants. Regarding the Mondrian patchwork, the spectral characteristics of the bulbs and the reflected light from each patch are measured using a commercial spectrometer. From the measured data, synthetic images of the patchwork with different illuminants are created and processed by the Retinex algorithm. The chromatic correction capabilities of the Retinex implementation have been measured and compared with unfiltered values and with the results of another Retinex implementation and classic color equalization algorithms. Results show that Retinex performs an unsupervised color correction without requiring any information about the spectral composition of the illuminant. © 2003 SPIE and IS&T. [DOI: 10.1117/1.1584051]

Using the Random Sprays Retinex Algorithm for Global Illumination Estimation
In this paper the use of Random Sprays Retinex (RSR) algorithm for global illumination estimation is proposed and its feasibility tested. Like other algorithms based on the Retinex model, RSR also provides local illumination estimation and brightness adjustment for each pixel and it is faster than other path-wise Retinex algorithms. As the assumption of the uniform illumination holds in many ca...
متن کاملFrom samples to populations in retinex models
Some spatial color algorithms, such as Brownian Milano retinex (MI-retinex) and random spray retinex (RSR), are based on sampling. In Brownian MI-retinex, memoryless random walks (MRWs) explore the neighborhood of a pixel and are then used to compute its output. Considering the relative redundancy and inefficiency of MRW exploration, the algorithm RSR replaced the walks by samples of points (th...
متن کاملChromatic adaptation for robust visual navigation
This paper analyzes the effects of the application of visual adaptation mechanisms on snapshot-based guidance methods. The guidance principle of the visual homing is proven to be a visual potential function with an equilibrium point located at the goal position. The presence of a potential function means that classical control theory principles based on the Lyapunov functions can be applied to ...
متن کاملChromatic Improvement of Backgrounds Images Captured with Environmental Pollution Using Retinex Model
A commonly problem of digital image processing systems that use video cameras for control navigation, as those used in cars or planes control, is that these systems depend on image contrast and the environmental pollution as fog, smog or rain. These environment characteristics, filters wavelengths of the light, which causes that the captured images, were modified by the video camera, decreasing...
متن کاملHigh-Dimensional Unsupervised Active Learning Method
In this work, a hierarchical ensemble of projected clustering algorithm for high-dimensional data is proposed. The basic concept of the algorithm is based on the active learning method (ALM) which is a fuzzy learning scheme, inspired by some behavioral features of human brain functionality. High-dimensional unsupervised active learning method (HUALM) is a clustering algorithm which blurs the da...
